LEVITICUS 23 · THE FEASTS OF THE LORD
God's Holidays
God did not leave Israel to invent its own sacred calendar. He appointed holy times that rehearse redemption and follow the ordered approach to His presence already revealed in the Tabernacle.
THE PATTERN BEFORE THE CALENDAR
The Tabernacle establishes
the path of the Feasts.
Exodus establishes a sacred progression through the Tabernacle: sacrifice at the Brazen Altar, cleansing at the Laver, bread at the Table, light from the Lampstand, incense before the veil, blood upon the Mercy Seat, and the Presence above the Ark.
Leviticus 23 follows the same sevenfold movement through sacred time. The Feasts are not isolated celebrations. Together they form a calendar of redemption that moves from Passover sacrifice toward Tabernacles—the harvest gathered and God dwelling with His people.
THE APPOINTED JOURNEY
From sacrifice to dwelling
Hover over each appointed feast to reveal its corresponding Creation Day color.
Passover
First month · Fourteenth day
Passover
Leviticus 23:4–5 · Exodus 12:1–14View Day 1 →Brazen Altar
Exodus 27:1–8 · Leviticus 17:11Passover begins with an unblemished lamb whose blood marks God’s people for deliverance. The Brazen Altar stands at the entrance to the Tabernacle as the place where an acceptable sacrifice permits approach to God. Both proclaim that redemption begins with substitutionary blood and a life offered in place of another.
Unleavened Bread
First month · Fifteenth through twenty-first days
Unleavened Bread
Leviticus 23:6–8 · Exodus 12:15–20View Day 2 →Brazen Laver
Exodus 30:17–21Unleavened Bread requires the removal of leaven from the household and a seven-day separation from corruption. At the Brazen Laver, priests wash before entering sacred service. The feast and the laver therefore share the same movement: what has been redeemed at the altar must also be cleansed and set apart for God.
Firstfruits
The day after the Sabbath
Firstfruits
Leviticus 23:9–14View Day 3 →Table of Shewbread
Exodus 25:23–30 · Leviticus 24:5–9Firstfruits presents the first sheaf of the harvest before the Lord as the pledge of everything still to come. The Table of Shewbread holds bread continually before God, representing covenant provision and the twelve tribes sustained in His presence. Both join the fruit of the earth, consecrated bread, and the promise of a complete harvest.
Pentecost
Fifty days after Firstfruits
Pentecost
Leviticus 23:15–22View Day 4 →Golden Lampstand
Exodus 25:31–40 · Exodus 27:20–21Pentecost completes a count of seven weeks and presents a new grain offering before the Lord. In Acts, heavenly fire rests upon the disciples and the Spirit empowers their witness. The Golden Lampstand, continually supplied with oil, fills the Holy Place with light. Both reveal a Spirit-filled people illuminated to bear God’s testimony.
Trumpets
Seventh month · First day
Trumpets
Leviticus 23:23–25 · Numbers 29:1View Day 5 →Altar of Incense
Exodus 30:1–10 · Psalm 141:2Trumpets announces an appointed assembly, awakens the people, and prepares them for the solemn days that follow. Incense rises before the veil as the prayers of God’s people ascend to His throne. Revelation makes the correspondence explicit: incense is offered with the prayers of the saints, then the seven angels prepare to sound their trumpets.
Day of Atonement
Seventh month · Tenth day
Day of Atonement
Leviticus 16:1–34 · Leviticus 23:26–32View Day 6 →Mercy Seat
Exodus 25:17–22 · Leviticus 16:14–16On the Day of Atonement, the high priest carries sacrificial blood beyond the veil and sprinkles it upon the Mercy Seat. This is not merely a thematic resemblance—the feast’s central rite occurs at this very article. There, mercy covers the broken law and the sanctuary and people are cleansed from sin.
Tabernacles
Seventh month · Fifteenth through twenty-second days
Tabernacles
Leviticus 23:33–43View Day 7 →Ark of the Covenant
Exodus 25:10–22 · Numbers 10:33–36Tabernacles celebrates the completed harvest and remembers Israel dwelling in temporary shelters under God’s care. The Ark is the covenant throne and resting place of God’s presence within the Tabernacle. Both culminate in the same promise: the journey ends, the people are gathered, and God dwells in their midst.

THE FINAL APPOINTED DWELLING
“The tabernacle of God
is with men.”
The Feasts begin with the death of a lamb and conclude with God dwelling among a gathered people. What was first revealed spatially in the Tabernacle is rehearsed annually in Israel’s calendar and brought to fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
