God establishes the expanse between the waters above and the waters below, creating order through separation and a boundary between realms.

The Flood: Judgment & Preservation
Human wickedness widens the disparity between God and man. The Flood reveals that separation in judgment: the rebellious perish below while Noah and his family are preserved and lifted above the waters in the ark.
