The Divine Day Hypothesis states that there are seven (7) Divine Days of Time, each day comprised of seven (7) 1000 year periods (or Ages) of darkness followed by an equal seven (7) 1000 year periods (or Ages) of light, of which we are currently residing in the 3rd Divine Day. The 1st and 2nd Divine Days precede the six diminutive days of creation week as described by Moses in Genesis 1:1-31.
The foundation for this hypothesis is built on the understanding that God’s ways are higher than our ways and yet, he has given us all the information we need to outline his entire plan - from ages past to the very end (Isaiah 46:9-10). Not only has he given us the order of events for his plan, but he also has given us his mathematical formula for the duration of those events according to his standard of measurement. Naturally, it is much greater and profound than our standard of measurement. In the Old Testament, King David wrote, “A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night (Psalm 90:4),” and in the New Testament, the Apostle Peter wrote, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day (2 Peter 3:8).” Although it is clear that the grammatical usage here is figurative and, a literal interpretation does not appear to contradict scripture. Rather, scripture supports such an interpretation in its greater context. An example of this is that the 1000 year millennial reign of Jesus is equated to our (future) "sabbath" rest as referenced by the writer of the book of Hebrews. Therefore, we have two witnesses in the Bible that confirm God’s perspective that 1 day is equal to 1000 years and/or 1000 years is equal to 1 day. Interpreting these verses to mean that God is merely outside of time alone undermines God's will to operate within it to accomplish his purpose. There are numerous examples of this in scripture, especially in the life of Jesus where he often delayed action because "his time had not yet come."
This is how he has declared the end from the beginning: From Genesis 1, we know that God created for six days, then rested on the seventh day. The order of creation week is what is important here since a day is only defined by evening and morning rather than a specific duration of time (i.e., 24 hours). This order of events is the blueprint by which God completes his work and then rests, which can be applied not only to every week, but also on a millennial scale where 6000 years represents working and the 7th 1000 years represents resting. Every day has two parts; a dark portion (evening) and a light portion (morning). Consequently, as God launched creation week with light and proceeded to create then rest altogether for a total of 7000 years, there was an equal period of 7000 years without light preceding it when God was not creating. Is it possible to see evidence of this in scripture?
In Genesis 1:1-3 we read, “In the Beginning God [stop 1] created the Heavens and the Earth [stop 2]. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters [stop 3]. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:3). Each [stop] signifies half of a DIVINE DAY and for 7000 years, the eternal God awaited creating after he set time into motion. This was the dark portion and the very first evening in DIVINE DAY 1. Then for 7000 years he created the Heavens and the Earth. This was the day portion or very 1st morning in DIVINE DAY 1. After which, we find that God was “hovering” over the face of the deep dark waters for 7000 years (2nd evening - DIVINE DAY 2). In other words, during this time, he was not creating, but rather hovering over darkness. Then, he said let there be light and proceeded to create the rest of creation for 6000 years and then rest for 1000 years (2nd morning - DIVINE DAY 2).
Did you ever wonder how God created Adam in the 6th day and within one 24 hour period, Adam named all the animals, found no suitable helper among them for which God then made Eve out of him while he slept? All in one literal 24 hour day? It would have been practically impossible, unless Adam being in an immortal state had some sort of super powers which could have accelerated his search to find a helper - and maybe so. However, a more likely scenario is that God created Adam in the latter part of the 6th millennium of God's Work Week (or creation week) where Adam would have had perhaps hundreds of years to encounter all of God's creatures and name them only to find not one suitable helper among them. Upon which, God made Eve out of him (prophetically foreshadowing Jesus' unification with the church - which is his body) and joined them together during his millennial rest (which God will fulfill as the church is unified with Jesus during his millennial reign). Afterwards, the Bible says God was walking "in the garden in the cool of the day" (Gen 3:8), indicating perhaps that it was twilight and the brink of a new DIVINE DAY, where the light of day was fading and Adam (leaving his father and cleaving to his wife) was then susceptible to temptation by Satan. The result being that Eve was deceived and Adam, choosing his wife over God, blatantly disobeying him and falling out of fellowship with him. Consequently, man's mortality had begun because death had then entered into the world (Romans 5:12). An important spiritual principle can be derived by this and that is that while we are in God's presence, sin is absent, but when we are left to our own devices outside of God's presence, sin will most assuredly ensue.
Death was now inevitable to all of creation, but did Adam die as God said he would within that 24 hour period? It can be argued that Adam died spiritually and that certainly is true (because we are dead in our trespasses and sins according to Ephesians 2:1), but he did not die physically and therefore it can be argued that God lied. However, we know that God is not a liar. Adam lived to be 930 years old according to Genesis 5:5. If we apply God's mathematical formula of 1 day =1000 years, then God's word is proven to be true because Adam died before he reached 1000 years of age (which would be a full day from God's perspective). So, Adam did die in his first day of mortality as God said he would. Let God be true and every man a liar! Now, from the start of man's mortality until now, it has been nearly 6000 years of darkness (3rd evening - DIVINE DAY 3). Once this evening is over, the Day of the Lord will dawn and God will once again create, this time creating a New Heavens and a New Earth (Revelation 21:1) (3rd morning - DIVINE DAY 3).
Below are the illustrations of each DIVINE DAY.

This illustration shows God's eternal existence prior to any (known) work of his hands. At some point in the mind of God (indicated by the red X above), he launched time into motion, then create the Heavens, which is our first reference of God working (Genesis 1:1) because he "created" the Heavens. God created the Heavens first, but no detail is provided and this comes after a period of unknown time, which according to his plan during creation week would have been preceded by a period of darkness. There is no amount of time specified for how long it took God to create it. However, we do know from the scriptures that the Heavens were not empty because of the angels that inhabit it (Job 38:4-7). We also know that there were sequential events that transpired, such as the fall of Satan (LUKE 10:18) and those angels who rebelled against God (2 Peter 2:4), meaning that TIME was set into motion even without the measuring rod of the sun/moon that we utilize today. An important question arises here. Was time set into motion when he created the Heavens or at some point prior? We do not have an explicit answer in scripture, but our hope is that an answer will be illuminated as we continue our study. At the very least, we can say that we have been introduced to the concept of duality as it relates to God's action - God not creating (which is first in order or primary) and God creating (which is second in order or secondary). This is not only demonstrated by God creating and not creating, but with the creation of the Heavens and the Earth, both out of chaos or nothingness.
